In topic we have been learning about Guisborough. We worked in groups of 3 to read find grid references of places of interest in and around Guisborough.

COOKING
We are learning about nutritious food in Design Technology. This week, we learned to cook a healthy pasta dish. We all tasted the food afterwards and thought it was delicious.

SCIENCE DAY
We made some crayon art using Crayola Crayons and photographs. All the children posed for the camera. The result is very effective!!

FAMILY SCIENCE DAY
In this session, some of the children's relatives joined in. In one group everyone had to guess what given smells were and match them up with a picture. In another group, you ran on the sport and then listened to your heart beating. In a final group, children were asked to put skeleton models back together.

HEARTS & LUNGS
Year 4/5 were lucky enough to see a pig's heart and lungs get dissected. This helped everyone understand how a human's heart and lungs work. It was very interesting. Most of us loved it!

PAPER TOWELS
On Science Day Year 4/5 had a challenge to build the tallest tower out of paper and masking tape. It was not as easy as we thought it was going to be. It took us an hour, but we enjoyed the task.

READING BUDDIES
Year 3 and Year 4/5 children joined together to have a 'reading buddies' session. Everyone had a fun time!

VOLCANOES
In DT we have been making volcanoes as part of our topic on volcanoes and earthquakes. It has taken ages, but everyone has done a great job! Well done.

ELECTRICITY
Year 4/5 have been learning about electricity. They have been finding out which materials conduct electricity.

DESTINATION JUDO

MATHS GAMES
The children in Year 4/5 played a game in pairs, which involved then understanding equivalents between fractions, decimals and percentages. They clearly enjoyed playing and understanding was much improved!

3D SHAPES
In maths the Year 4/5 children have been learning about 3-D shapes. They made 3-D shapes to help them to understand their properties and their 2-D shapes. It was a fun lesson!

ROMANS
In art, Year 4/5 have been learning about the Romans. In art, they have been creating their own mosaic tiles. After they designed one, they arranged each mosaic onto a wooden tile. The pictures show the children carefully gluing each of their mosaics onto their own tile. It is slow, exact work, but they have done a great job. Well done everyone!

CHRIS CONNAUGHTON
Chris Connaughton visited our class last week. He read excerpts from Charles Dickens’ book ‘Oliver Twist.’ The children loved listening to the readings. They then wrote a descriptive setting, with the help of Chris. Their use of adjectives and similes was impressive.
